Roberto Gianola - Conductor

Roberto Gianola (Lecco, February 4, 1974) is a Italian conductor and trumpeter, active mainly in the operatic and ballet repertoireSon of art, he is the son of Angelo Gianola, longtime conductor of the Bellano Band. He approached music at a very young age, beginning his band activities and studying wind instruments.

After graduating from Music High School of the Milan Conservatoryobtained his diploma in trumpet in 1995 at the Milan Conservatory under the guidance of Gianmario Bonino

Alongside his instrumental training, he developed an early interest in orchestral conducting, deepened through specific studies and international masterclasses, in particular with  Aldo Ceccato.

Orchestral activity and touring

In the years immediately following his graduation he began an intense activity as trumpeter, collaborating with Italian opera seasons and passing the first national auditions. 

It is suitable for theItalian Youth Orchestra, finishing second in second nationally, and subsequently becomes part of theOrchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée, with which it remains active from 1993 to 1996.

During this period he took part in numerous international tours, performing at prominent venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the San Carlo Theatre in Naples, as well as concerts in various countries of the Mediterranean basin, including Egypt, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon, and Tunisia.

Opera, ballet and international assignments

Since the 2000s he has dedicated himself exclusively to orchestral conducting, debuting as opera director with The Marriage of Figaro. Thus he began a professional career that led him to direct numerous titles of the great lyrical repertoire, addressing works of Mozart, Donizetti, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi and Puccini.
During his career he directed opera productions in the Italian traditional theatres and collaborates with important national lyric institutions, including the Arena di Verona Foundation, the Cagliari Opera House, the Giglio Theatre of Lucca and the Verdi Theatre of Trieste, as well as numerous Italian symphony orchestras. At the same time, he developed a solid experience in musical direction of the ballet, tackling titles from the classical and romantic repertoire.

International career, awards and training

Alongside its activity in Italy, it develops a significant international careerFrom 2014 holds a permanent position at the Istanbul Opera Houseinternational career Musical Director, directing numerous productions of opera and classical ballet. His ballet career includes titles such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker e Romeo and Juliet, also directed to the Ljubljana Opera House.
In the concert field he directs international orchestras and institutions, performing in halls such as the Carnegie Hall e Lincoln Centre of New York and the Vienna Musikverein,  Smetana Hall di Praga and carries out artistic activities in Europe, Asia and the Americas, with direct productions in South Korea, China and JapanIn 2015 receives at Royal Theatre of Parma the Opera Grand Prix (with Fiorenza Cedolins) for his commitment to the opera house.

He collaborated with Plácido Domingo for a production of Nabucco in Beijing. He joined the Master Myung-Whun Chung as an assistant in the preparation of the Requiem by Verdi, in co-production between the Arena di Verona and the Teatro La Fenice for the centenary of the Verona Arena Festival. He has received wide acclaim for his direction of La Traviata with the famous soprano Mariella Devia in Seoul.  

Alongside his directorial career he carries out an intense training and organizational activities: for over twenty years it has been promoting musical events on Lake Como and is founder of the Lake Como Academy and of Lake Como Philharmonic Orchestra, realities dedicated to advanced training of musicians, opera singers and young conductors.
